The Blossoming Rose~Roseblossom's Story~Chapter 29 and 30 have been posted~
NOTE: LIKE JULES' OC STORY, THIS STORY IS NO LONGER RELEVANT. IT'S 5 YEARS OLD AND IT SUCKS AND THERE ARE SUPERPOWERS AND POORLY-WRITTEN DRAMA, AND IS NOW ONLY STAYING HERE FOR THE SAKE OF MEMES.
IF YOU WANNA SEE A WORSE VERSION, GO ON THE OLD WCW AND READ "THE CLOUDED ROSE" IT IS AN ABOMINATION:D
Hello there. I'm Roseblossom, a warrior of CloudClan. Swirlstar told me you'd be coming. So, you wanna hear how I got this far, huh? Being one of the most popular cats in the Clans? Well it wasn't easy. Come sit down by that bed of moss and I'll tell you the whole story...
Prologue:
- Spoiler:
- Two tiny kits lay beside the pink she-cat. "They're beautiful, Petalflower." a gray tom purred.
"Thanks, Stormfur." Petalflower said. "Well, let's name them."
One of the kits was a gray she-kit whose pelt shimmered in the sunlight. "Let's call her Shimmerkit." Petalflower said.
"What about that one?" Stormfur pointed to the other kit, a pink she-kit with a white chest.
Petalflower thought about it for a minute. "...Rosekit."
"Where will they live?" Stormfur said. "I can't take them to my Clan."
"And I can't bring them to StarClan with me. The Dark Forest has been threatening to attack. I can't risk having them fade from existence." Suddenly she got an idea.
~~~
Petalflower carried Rosekit in her jaws until they had reached their destination. Twolegplace.
She noticed a cat in one of the yards, a red she-cat. "Ruby! It's me, Petal!" She ran toward her.
"Petal!" Ruby purred. "I thought I'd never see you again after you went and joined those Clans."
Petalflower showed Rosekit to her. "This is my kit. I can't keep her with me; it's too dangerous for a little one like her."
"But wouldn't the Twolegs be suspicious?" Ruby asked.
"You know you're expecting kits, Ruby. Besides, Twolegs don't have a brain in their body. They'll completely fall for it." Petalflower set the kit down. "Her name is Rose. Take good care of her, Ruby."
"I will."
Petalflower bent down to the kit. "You are destined for greatness, little one." she whispered before leaving.
Chapter 1:
- Spoiler:
- When I was a kit, I was originally a kittypet. My mother, Ruby, was a beautiful pink she-cat. My father, Rust, was a dark red cat. My adopted brother, Skippy, was a dark siamese. Ruby looked down at me. "She's so pretty!" she said. I looked up at her weakly. Skippy ran up from the yard and looked. "It's cute." he said. "Is that my new sister?"
"Yes, she is." Ruby said. "Her name's Rose."
Rose, I thought. I like the sound of that.
Then, a couple of Twoleg kits came up. They started talking, but I didn't know what they were saying. I didn't speak Twoleg. But they must have been talking about me. They picked me up and pet me, fed me with some sort of container, and showed me around their nest. To me, that was the most amazing place ever. I mewed happily.
For the next few moons, we'd all have fun together. We'd go into the yard and play. We'd get fed whenever we wanted food. All that good stuff. It was the best life I could imagine having. I thought that I'd be doing that forever. Things were just about perfect.
Until it happened....
Chapter 2:
- Spoiler:
- It was green-leaf, or summer as we called it, and we were in the yard playing with some large smooth boulders. They were very round and colorful. Skippy rolled one to me. "Catch, Rose!" he said. I caught it and rolled it to Rust. Then he rolled it to Ruby. Then she rolled it to Skippy. And so on. Then a creepy shadow loomed over us. I looked up to see a large dog-like creature. It was orange-red with a white tail tip, and his eyes glowed dark red. "Fox!" Rust yowled. "We have to leave!"
"But, why?" I asked.
"Foxes are dangerous. We have to leave for our own safety. I know, I have encountered foxes before. Luckily this is a young fox."
I nodded and started to run. But it was too late. The fox had grabbed me.
"Rose! Come back!" Ruby yowled as they chased after the fox.
"Sister!" Skippy shouted in fear.
"Mom! Father! Skippy!" I yowled as the fox took me away.
And that was what I thought the last time I would ever see my family.
~~~~~~~~
The fox carried me into the forest. It was hot and I couldn't stop panting. The fox growled something in its fox language, but I didn't know what it was saying. It howled, and then it slashed its large claws.
And then everything went black.
Chapter 3:
- Spoiler:
- Better go tell Father about that fox in the backyard... I mumbled sleepily. But when I opened my eyes, all I saw was a black and white blur. My eyes adjusted, and the blur turned out to be a cat. I squeezed my eyes back shut in fear. "Hey guys!" the cat shouted to some other cats. "She's up!" I opened my eyes again. I could see some cats fighting the fox. It howled in pain and ran off. I scrambled to my feet. "Who are you? Where am I?" I started asking questions to the cats. "What happened? Why do I hurt so much? Where's my mom?! I wanna go home!" I started crying, homesick.
"Calm down!" a black and gray tabby she-cat said. "We'll explain everything. First of all, I'm Echostar." She pointed to the black and white she-cat with her tail. "That's Blossompaw." She pointed to a gray she-cat. "That's Silverrose." Then she pointed to the yellow she-cat with black spots. "And that's Ivypaw." I nodded, understanding who everyone was. "Now can you tell me what all happened?" I asked.
"Okay." They said.
"So, I was taking Ivypaw and Blossompaw on a patrol," Echostar started.
"And we saw this huge fox!" Ivypaw said.
"And we found you next to it." Blossompaw added. "Ivypaw went to fetch Silverrose the medicine cat, while I stayed with you."
"By the look of it, you've been knocked out for hours!" Silverrose meowed. "And that fox gave you some pretty bad wounds."
"But we got it back!" Ivypaw said. "We've got that thing running for it's mother like a stupid kit!" She then nervously added, "No offence."
"None taken." I replied. "Wait a second, you'd fight off a huge fox and try to heal my wounds in this scorching heat, just for a small kit that isn't even part of your family?"
"Of course!" Blossompaw said. "It's part of the warrior code to protect kits."
"The whattawha what?"
"The warrior code is a list of rules a Clan cat must follow." Echostar said. "Ancient cats long ago created them for cats' safety."
"Do kittypets have to follow them too?"
"Only Clan cats do."
"What do you have to do to become a Clan cat?"
"Most Clan cats were born in a Clan. Some come from outside the Clans and prove their loyalty. Other times, we take in small kits that we have to take in in order for those kits to survive."
"Really?" I thought of my family. Tears formed in my eyes. I'd go back to them if I could, but I didn't know where home was, or where my family retreated to. "Um, any kit?" I asked. "Even if you were tired out because you just finished fighting off a fox?"
"Yes." Echostar said. "I know what you're thinking."
"Y-you do?"
"Yes. Until you find your parents at least, would you like to join RainClan?"
"Yes!" I immediately answered.
"Hooray!" Blossompaw cheered.
"You know," Echostar said. "Little kit, since you're probably way too weak to walk right now, I'll carry you." She picked me up.
And off we went, to my new home.
Chapter 4:
- Spoiler:
- "Get up!" I felt a paw pushing against my shoulder. I stood up, kinda hoping it was just a dream, and I was at home in my bed safe and sound. But I wasn't. I was in the forest, in a small patch of moss. "Where are we?" I asked.
"I decided you needed to rest," Echostar replied. "So we stopped here."
"Is Blossompaw still here?"
The black and white she-cat nodded. "Are you ready to go to RainClan camp?" she asked.
I slowly nodded. And off we went.
We ran for a while. Sometimes I'd run with them, sometimes the others would take turns carrying me. Every now and then, we'd stop. I still had pretty bad cuts from the fox attack so Silverrose would collect some herbs. Eventually we came to some bushes. "We're here." Echostar said.
We went inside the bushes and came out from the other side. There was a huge waterfall. "Huh?" I asked. "Come on!" Echostar grabbed my scruff tightly. They ran straight for the waterfall. I clenched my eyes shut in fear. They swam through like it was nothing. There was a cave inside the waterfall, and the water that crashed down to the earth acted like a shield. There were 6 caves side by side, and above them was a huge ledge that stuck out. Echostar let go of me, and I started spitting out water. "Come on, kit." Silverrose said. "I'm going to take you to the medicine den for a while."
"Wait a second." Echostar said. She grabbed me and lept up to the ledge. I noticed that the ledge stuck out of the waterfall. I spat out more water. "May all cats old enough to swim gather beneath the HighLedge for a Clan meeting!" Echostar yowled. A whole bunch of cats came out to the clearing and sat down. "I, Echostar, leader of RainClan, must share a special announcement!"
I heard the cats murmuring below.
"Is it a prophecy?" one asked.
"Am I becoming a warrior now?" a young cat asked.
"Shush!" an elder snapped.
Echostar finally spoke. "As I was saying, I have a special announcement. There was a fox on our territory, but we have fought it off." Ivypaw watched on with a proud face. The cats probably assumed the announcement was to look out for the fox, so some of them started to leave. "I'm not finished yet!" Echostar shouted, and the cats sat back down. "We found the fox attacking this small kit, leaving her unconscious. We brought the kit back here to RainClan, and will take care of her." She looked at me. "What was your name?" she whispered.
"Rose." I quietly replied.
"Very well." She turned back to the Clan. "And by the powers of StarClan, I give her a new name. From this point on, until she becomes an apprentice, she will be known as Rosekit!"
The Clan started yowling and cheering. "Rosekit! Rosekit!"
I blushed. "Come on, Rosekit." Echostar said. "I'll show you around the camp, and then we'll go see Silverrose."
I nodded. Soon, I was going to find out what my new home would look like.
Chapter 5:
- Spoiler:
- We leapt off of HighLedge, but I still wasn't used to all the water, so I held my breath and squeezed my eyes shut as I ran through the watery barrier. "Come on," Echostar beckoned me with her tail. We walked toward one of the caves. "This is the nursery." she said. I saw some kits playing in there, and some queens watching. I waved at one of them.
Then she took me to the next cave. "This is the apprentices' den." she mewed. There were cats in there, but they weren't kits. I saw Blossompaw and Ivypaw with them. "When you become an apprentice," Echostar said. "you'll have another ceremony, and become Rosepaw instead of Rosekit. And you'll stay here." I bounded off to the next den.
"This is the warriors' den." Echostar told me. There were some warriors in there. I waved and moved on to the next den.
"This is the elders' den." she meowed. "Well, once we get some elders..." We moved skipped a den and moved on to the next. "Here is my den." she said, smiling. "I'll be in here if you ever need me." We went back to the cave we skipped.
"Hello, Rosekit." Silverrose meowed from inside. I realized it was the medicine cat cave. "Come inside." I did. I looked around. I saw a whole bunch of herbs in different piles. I saw a small area with moss in it, and I found out it was where the sick cats stayed. "Go ahead and rest." Silverrose said, fixing the bedding a bit.
"Do I have to?" I groaned. "Right now? I wanna find out how bad I'm hurt!"
"I guess you can stay up while I examine you." Silverrose said. I sat up and stayed still. Silverrose looked at me. "Well, you look better than you did." she commented. "But that one nasty scar is still visible."
"Scar?" I asked, half worried, half excited. A battle scar would really make me look like a warrior. "What scar?"
"Come." she walked up to the waterfall. "Look at your reflection."
I looked in. I stared in horror. A large cut was right above my eye. If the fox had scratched just a whisker lower, it would've made my right eye blind. I turned away, tears streaming down my face. "Do I really look that bad?" I sobbed. "I'll never be a warrior!"
"Yes you will." Silverrose mewed. "You just need some rest for now." She picked me up and put me in the small moss bed.
"But I'm not tired!" I complained.
She brought out some seeds. "Eat these." she meowed. "It'll make you sleepy."
"But I don't wanna." I grumbled, but I ate the seeds anyway. "Will I be okay?"
"Of course you will!" Silverrose said. "You seem strong. An attack like that would've killed a kit. But you survived, and still survived for an hour or two before we found you. I see a great future ahead of you, Rosekit..." I didn't hear the rest. The poppy seeds had taken full effect, and I had fallen fast asleep.
Chapter 6:
- Spoiler:
- I burst awake. "Are you okay?" Silverrose asked.
"Yeah, I am." I mewed. "I just had a bad dream."
"What was it?"
"It was the fox accident from a couple days ago." Tears clouded my eyes remembering the horrible attack.
"Yeah, that was pretty bad." Silverrose mewed. "You'll probably remember that for a while. But I have good news."
"You do?" I jumped up and down excitedly. "What is it? What is it?"
"I believe you're better enough to join the other kits in the nursery now!" She smiled.
"I am? Yaaaay!!!" I started running around happily.
"Okay." Silverrose said. "Let's go."
We padded out of the den and into the nursery. I looked around. "This place looks nice." I mewed. "It is!" one of the kits replied. One of the queens walked up to me. "Hello." she mewed. "You must be Rosekit."
I nodded. Then a shocking realization came to me. Without my parents, who was going to take care of me? The queen seemed to read my mind. "My name is Icepelt. I'm going to take care of you for now." she purred. I smiled. I ran over to the other kits. "Hey Rosekit!" one of them mewed. "Wanna play moss-ball?"
"How do you play that?" I asked.
"I'll show you!" The kit flung a glob of moss at me and laughed.
"Oh yeah?" I threw it back to him. We threw it back and forth for a while. I'm gonna like it here! I thought.
Chapter 7:
- Spoiler:
- I walked out of the nursery as Echostar called a Clan meeting. Moons had passed since I joined the Clan, and I had gotten used to it. Now Echostar had called me up to HighLedge, along with Blossompaw. Echostar looked at me. "Rosekit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this point on, until you recieve your warrior name, you will be known as Rosepaw. We will assign a mentor for you soon. For now, we shall have the other apprentices and mentors help you train."
"Rosepaw! Rosepaw!" some of the cats yowled, and I saw another padding toward the dens. "Wait, there's one more ceremony to perform!" Echostar yowled, and the cat padded back over. "I call upon our warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained in the ways of your noble code, and I commend her as a warrior in her turn. Blossompaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
"I do." Blossompaw mewed.
"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Blossompaw, from this point on you'll be known as Blossomberry. StarClan honors your patience and optimism, and we welcome you as a full member of RainClan."
"Rosepaw! Blossomberry! Rosepaw! Blossomberry!" the other cats yowled. I smiled. I was an apprentice now.
Chapter 8:
- Spoiler:
- A couple days later, I went out on a hunting patrol with Echostar, Blossomberry, and some other cats. I ran out, trying to see if I could catch a vole. I padded into some bushes. I saw some eyes. Suddenly a loud yowl was heard and a brown cat lept out at me. I yowled and batted at the cat. The others had probably heard us, so they ran out and attacked the cat. The cat meowed and ran back into the bushes. Echostar and I walked into the bushes after the cat. Beside him, two other cats- reddish cats- were looking at us with terrified eyes. "Stay off our territory." Echostar muttered.
"Please don't hurt him!" one of the cats, a she-cat, cried. "He didn't know it belonged to anyone! Please...! We've already lost our daughter in a fox attack, we don't want to lose our son too!"
I gasped as the cat spoke. Could this be her?
She looked into my eyes....
"Rose?"
Chapter 9:
- Spoiler:
- I gasped. "M-Mom?" I walked closer to her. "It's you!" I purred.
"Rose!" Ruby meowed. "Where was you? What happened after the fox attack?"
"Well, the fox took me into the forest and attacked me and almost killed me, but then these cats came and fought the fox off, and I'm part of their Clan now, and I'm gonna be a warrior!" Then I realized something. "Wait, now that I found my family, does that mean I can't be a warrior? Do I have to go back to my Twoleg nest?" I asked worriedly.
"Well, we kinda can't do that." Ruby said. "After the fox took you off we kept running, and we can't seem to find our way back. And yesterday I discovered I'm expecting kits! We've been hoping that if some family took you, we could stay with you."
I looked up beggingly at Echostar. "Please? Can they?"
"Of course." Echostar purred. "Come." She padded back to camp with the rest of the patrol. I was reunited with my family at last.
Chapter 10:
- Spoiler:
- Once we made it to camp, Echostar called a Clan meeting. I watched as the cats gathered around the HighLedge. "Today, on a patrol, we have found Rosepaw's family members." Echostar meowed. "They wish to join the Clan, and so I shall give them their Clan names." She looked at Ruby and Rust. "Ruby, Rust, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
"I do." Rust mewed.
"We do." Ruby meowed.
"Then by the powers of StarClan, I grant you your warrior names." Echostar nodded. "Rust, from this point on you'll be known as Rustpelt. Ruby, from this point on you'll be known as Rubyfoot." Then she looked at Skippy. "Skippy, since you are the age of six moons, you shall be an apprentice. From now on, until you recieve your warrior name, you shall be known as Darkpaw."
"Wait, why can't I be Skippypaw?" he asked.
"Because," Echostar mewed. "Skippy is not a proper Clan cat prefix."
"Well, that makes sense, I guess." Darkpaw said.
"This is the part where the other cats cheer your names." I whispered to Darkpaw excitedly.
As if on cue, the other cats cheered. "Rustpelt! Rubyfoot! Darkpaw! Rustpelt! Rubyfoot! Darkpaw!"
"Come on!" I mewed to Darkpaw. "I'll show you around the camp." I padded off toward one of the dens. Darkpaw followed happily. "It feels good being able to hang out with my sister again." he mewed.
"It sure does, Darkpaw." I purred. "It sure does."
Chapter 11:
- Spoiler:
- "Icepelt is dead!" Sunfeather's voice rang throughout the camp.
I gasped. "Icepelt!" I ran over to Sunfeather, who was carefully holding Icepelt's body.
"Who's Icepelt?" Darkpaw asked.
"She was the queen who took care of me until I became an apprentice." I mewed, tears falling from my face. "Who did this?" I hissed. "Who killed her?"
"It was a rogue." Sunfeather said. "A dark orange one from the look of it."
I looked at Icepelt's body, and I found small ginger hairs in her claws. "I shall sit vigil with her tonight." I mewed.
"What's a vigil?" Darkpaw asked.
"A vigil is where the cats who were closest to her- like a family member or a mentor or apprentice- stay by her side until her spirit leaves us and goes to StarClan." Sunfeather said. "Vigils can also be when cats are made warriors and they must stay up all night to guard the Clan."
We nodded. So that night, when Darkpaw and the others were in their dens, I was out in the clearing with Icepelt. That night, I thought I heard a voice. "I'll never forget you, Rosepaw."
Suddenly another voice rang through the camp.
"Help! I'm kitting!"
Chapter 12:
- Spoiler:
- I perked my ears. I ran to the nursery. The first thing I saw was Rubyfoot. She was screaming in terror. Silverrose was trying to calm her down. Darkpaw and Rustpelt were sitting by me. Silverrose got a stick and gave it to Rubyfoot. "Bite on it." she said. "It'll distract you from the pain."
Rubyfoot nodded and bit down on the stick. "When do you think it's go-" She was cut off by a small lump of fur sliding onto the moss. The kit was red.
"It's a she-cat!" Rustpelt yowled.
I ran over to the kit. I gently put my paw against her. She wouldn't budge. "I don't feel her breathing..." I said.
"She was born dead." Silverrose mewed sadly. "Well, we can't send her to StarClan without a name."
"Then StarClan shall welcome her with a proper name." Rubyfoot sighed. "Her name shall be Applekit." Another kit was born. It was pink, and it had a white muzzle, chest, and paws. I heard it mew softly.
"This one's alive!" Darkpaw said happily. "What are you gonna name her?"
"I'm going to name her Birdkit." Rubyfoot mewed.
Birdkit looked up at me with shining blue eyes.
"Welcome to RainClan, sister." I whispered.
Chapter 13:
- Spoiler:
- A couple days later, I was hunting alone for the very first time. "My first day out without anybody else." I mewed to myself. Suddenly a small kit appeared in front of me. She looked kind of blurry and her fur sparkled. I could tell it was a StarClan cat. "Applekit?" I mewed.
"Hello, sister." The StarClan kit purred.
I looked around. "Am I dreaming?" I muttered. "When did I fall asleep?"
"Calm down, Rosepaw." Applekit said. "You're still awake. StarClan has sent me to send you on an important mission."
"A mission?" I mewed, excited. "What do I do?"
"Just follow me and I will show you." Applekit purred. She started running. I followed her.
We ran for a while, and we stopped at a cold hard path that looked like it had been made of rocks. The Thunderpath!
I looked at Applekit. She had ran across the Thunderpath like it was nothing. Strong kit.
I braced myself. I started running. When I was about halfway there, a large monster ran straight at me. I froze in fear. I closed my eyes, waiting for its huge black paws to trample me like I was a pile of dust, and leave my crushed bones laid out across the stone path.
I opened my eyes, just in time to see the monster run past me.
"Come on!" Applekit mewed excitedly. Wherever she's leading me, she sure seems excited about getting there.
We ran farther, until we saw a cave. Applekit looked at me and purred. I nodded and ran inside.
I padded through the cave until I came across a large, shimmering waterfall. "It's beautiful." I mewed. I was thirsty after coming such a long way. I closed my eyes and drank from the sparkling waters.
Chapter 14:
- Spoiler:
- I blinked open my eyes after taking the refreshing sip of waterfall water. I looked around. I wasn't in the cave anymore. I was in a shimmering forest, with golden grass and gold and silver leaves. The forest was full of mist, making it look even more mystical. The ground was soft, almost like a cloud. The waterfall was still there.
"Applekit!" I called out. "Where are you?"
She came floating down gracefully. "Hello again, Rosepaw." she mewed.
"Where am I now?" I asked.
"You're in StarClan." she answered calmly.
"StarClan!?" I yowled, terrified. "I can't be dead already!"
"It's okay, Rosepaw." Applekit mewed. "You're just dreaming."
I looked in the waterfall. In it, I saw a reflection of myself sound asleep in the cave.
"Why did you bring me here?" I asked her.
"Because," she said. "I wanted to show you the Moonfalls, so you can tell the leaders and medicine cats of the Clans about it, and they can come and share dreams with StarClan."
"Okay then, I'll tell them all about it." I mewed.
At that moment, I woke up. I was back in the cave. Applekit was still with me.
"Let's get you back to your territory." she mewed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We finally made it back to RainClan territory. "Don't forget to tell them!" Applekit said.
"Trust me, I won't."
She nodded. "May StarClan light your path, Rosepaw." she mewed. I blinked. When I opened my eyes, she was gone.
I ran back to the others, wanting to tell them all about it.
Chapter 15:
- Spoiler:
- I told my Clan all about the Moonfalls. They decided that Silverrose, being the medicine cat, should go there every half-moon with the other Clans' medicine cats.
~~~~~~~
A couple days later, Blossomberry, Whisperpaw, and I were on a patrol. I found a vole. I slowly crept up to it, and killed it. Then I heard a voice shout out, "I'll save you!"
I buried the mouse and looked up. A bunch of foxes were there, and they were attacking something. I got closer. The foxes were attacking Ivypaw! We ran toward the foxes.
I slashed at a fox's muzzle. It winced in pain and swiped its paws at me, which I sucessfully dodged. Blossomberry was scratching at a fox's stomach, and Whisperpaw was on top of another fox, which was jumping all over, but failed to buck the apprentice off. The fox jumped on me, knocking me over, while another fox swiped at my back. I struggled out, just in time to see the others hiss as all the foxes retreated.
"Thank you..." Ivypaw gasped out, and she immediately collapsed.
"We have to get her to Silverrose!" Whisperpaw mewed.
So we grabbed Ivypaw and raced back to camp.
When we got her to the medicine cat den, I noticed something different about Ivypaw's face. Her face was torn up, and one of her eyes was missing. That's what could've happened to me...
"Guys....?" Ivypaw slowly opened her eye. I just stood there, staring at her face in horror.
Silverrose walked up to us with her mouth full of herbs. "Thank StarClan she's okay." she mewed, putting the herbs down. "She should be alone right now while I tend to her wounds. I don't want any distractions."
Blossomberry, Whisperpaw, and I nodded and padded back to our dens. I still ached, but I knew Ivypaw's wounds were more severe, so she needed to be treated first. I curled up in my nest and rested.
Chapter 16:
- Spoiler:
- I padded into the medicine cat den. "Is Ivypaw going to be okay?" I asked worriedly.
"Of course she is." Silverrose said. "I wasn't able to save her eye, but she'll still live. What do you want to know for?"
"I just want to make sure that she doesn't have... the fate I could've had." I sighed. "The fox could've torn me to shreds, but they didn't. But those foxes did to Ivypaw."
"Don't feel bad about it, Rosepaw." Silverrose purred. "You couldn't control what the foxes did."
"But I could've driven the foxes off before they could attack her like that."
"Your small patrol couldn't have defeated those foxes before that, no matter how hard you fought. Foxes are dangerous. But still, you did your best, and you were able to protect yourself and the others the best you could."
I nodded. I started to pad away. "Wait!" Silverrose mewed.
"Yes?" I purred.
"Echostar says you're one of the cats that are going to the Gathering tonight."
My eyes lit up. The other cats had told me about Gatherings all the time, but this was the first time I'd get to actually go to one. "Who else is going?" I asked.
"Me, Echostar, Sunfeather, Blossomberry, and Whisperpaw." Silverrose replied.
I nodded. "Okay, I'll see you then!" I mewed, padding back to my den.
~~~~~~~~~~
That night, we padded off to the Gatherplace. I saw four large trees. "Each of those trees stand for different Clans." Sunfeather told me.
I saw many cats there. But there was one that caught my eye. It didn't look like a cat. It wasn't a cat. It was a fox. It started padding up to me. I froze in terror and squeezed my eyes shut.
"Hello." the fox said. I opened an eye. How could the fox speak cat?
"Don't be scared." it said. "I'm Stealthvixen, a warrior of LightningClan. Who are you?"
"I'm... Rosepaw of RainClan..." I mewed nervously. "....So you aren't going to hurt me?"
"Of course not." Stealthvixen said. "Why would I do that?"
I pointed above my right eye with my tail. "T..that's how I got this scar."
She sniffed at it. "It does look like a fox attack. But I wouldn't hurt you like that. Especially not at a Gathering."
"Shh, the leaders are about to speak." Whisperpaw whispered.
I looked up at a huge rock. Four cats, including Echostar, climbed up on it. One of them was an orange she-cat, one of them was a gray tabby she-cat, and the last one was a golden she-cat with black spots.
Echostar spoke. "I, Echostar, leader of RainClan, shall speak first! Earlier this moon, we have named a new warrior. That warrior is Blossomberry." She looked at the black-and-white cat as all of the cats cheered. "We also have a new apprentice. Rosepaw, a cat who we have taken in when she was a kit." I listened as all of the cats cheered for me.
Then, the golden she-cat spoke. "I, Goldstar, leader of StormClan, also has a new warrior. Her name is Sparklemist." She pointed her tail toward a brown she-cat. I cheered.
Then it was the gray tabby she-cat's turn to speak. "I, Swirlstar, leader of CloudClan, have not had any ceremonies this moon, but would like to inform you that our Clan has been going well."
Lastly, the golden spotted cat talked. "I, Cheetahstar, leader of LightningClan, also has no important news, but we have been going good this moon."
I thought it was cool seeing all the Clan leaders and cats. I noticed the trees again. I decided to walk to them and get a closer look. I saw different carvings on the trees. They probably represented each Clan. On one of the trees, there was a carving of a cloud with lightning striking out of it. LightningClan, I thought. The next tree had a cloud with rain and many lightning strikes. It was probably StormClan's tree. Then there was a tree with just a cloud. It was obviously CloudClan. Then there was a cloud with raindrops coming out of it on the last tree. I decided that tree represented RainClan. Right before I walked away, I noticed something else. I ran back. On the LightningClan tree, it also showed a carving of a jewel and a blade of wheat. And on RainClan's tree, it showed a carving of a rose.
Chapter 17:
- Spoiler:
- I was curled up in my den. Suddenly, Echostar mewed, "Let all cats old enough to swim come gather beneath the HighLedge for a Clan meeting!" I padded to the rock. I saw Glimmerkit, a siamese cat that looked a bit like Darkpaw, up there. She's probably becoming an apprentice. I thought.
"Rosepaw, you come up here too." Echostar purred. Confused, I padded up the HighLedge.
Echostar looked at Glimmerkit and purred. "Glimmerkit, you have proven yourself a worthy and dedicated member of RainClan, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you recieve your warrior name, you will be known as Glimmerpaw. Your mentor will be Silverrose."
Silverrose had given up her place as medicine cat and became a warrior.
Echostar continued. "I hope Silverrose will pass on all she knows on to you. Silverrose, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have recieved excellent training and knowledge of the Clan, and you have shown yourself to be helpful and loyal. You will be mentor of Glimmerpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Glimmerpaw."
Then while everyone cheered for Glimmerpaw, she padded off the HighLedge and happily touched noses with her mentor.
I wish I could feel that joy. The joy of having a mentor.
Then Echostar spoke again. "And now, as we all know, the mentoring system was mixed up. However, one apprenticed was apprenticed before we got sorted out. That apprentice is Rosepaw. Blossomberry, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have recieved excellent training, skills, and you have shown yourself to be smart and leader-like. You will be mentor of Rosepaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Rosepaw."
Blossomberry was one of the smartest warriors in RainClan, and now she was my mentor! I jumped up and touched noses with her. Everyone cheered for us.
"So, what do you want to do now?" Blossomberry asked once everyone settled down.
"Well, I feel like hunting." I mewed. So we bounded off toward the hunting grounds.
Chapter 18:
- Spoiler:
- We watched as the cats left the area. "Maybe we can do catch some fish?" I asked.
"Sure." Blossomberry mewed.
We padded to the waterfall. The area of the waterfall that we were at contained a lot of starfish. "I wonder if starfish taste good..." I muttered. I touched one of the starfish. I suddenly felt dizzy out of nowhere.
"Are you okay?" Blossomberry mewed.
"Yeah, I think so." I meowed. "Just a bit dizzy. I'll be okay."
"Okay." Blossomberry said. So we padded on. Strangely, after we got away from the starfish, I felt better. Maybe I'm allergic to starfish...
We padded to the forest, near the borders. I saw a small orange tabby cat with white paws. Who are you?
As if reading my thoughts, she answered. "I'm Jewelpaw of LightningClan!"
"Hi!" I mewed. "I'm Rosepaw!"
"Nice to meet you, Rosepaw!" Jewelpaw mewed. "So, how are you?"
"I'm fine. Just going on a hunting patrol with my mentor." I smiled.
"My mentor is a fox. Cool, huh?" she mewed.
"A fox?" I tilted my head, confused. "Oh, you mean Stealthvixen. I've met her at a Gathering before. She's really nice."
"Come on, Rosepaw." Blossomberry mewed, interrupting our conversation.
"Okay." I said, padding on with Blossomberry. "See you later, Jewelpaw!" I called back. As I walked around, I smelt a cat's scent around the area, but I couldn't tell what Clan it was from.
I saw a mouse run by. I crawled up toward it, and just as I was about to pounce, yellow paws burst out and caught it. The possessor of the yellow paws turned out to be a she-cat, who didn't seem to be a Clan cat.
"What are you doing here?" Blossomberry growled.
"No big deal, I'm just hunting." the cat rolled her eyes.
"Well this is RainClan's territory, and whoever you are, you better leave!" I unseathed my claws.
"My name is Star, and no, I won't leave." the cat growled back.
"Okay then." I growled. "Then I'll have to fight." I lept at Star and grabbed onto her back. She threw me off and lept at Blossomberry, who scratched at her and left a huge scar on her muzzle.
"Hyaah!" Star growled in pain. She looked at us. "This battle is not over. I will find you, and the rest of your Clan. I'll bring my group of rogues, and they'll kill you off one by one. And then you're regret that we've met on this day!" She bounded off.
Blossomberry and I raced back to camp to tell the others about Star. But when we got back, everyone seemed busy. "I think we should rest." Blossomberry said.
"Okay." I mewed. I padded to my den. But I couldn't sleep. I kept thinking that Star was going to jump out at me at any second. Finally, my exhaustion finally took hold of me, and I fell asleep.
Chapter 19:
- Spoiler:
- Later, I woke up. I stretched. I padded out of my den. I heard yowling, and a bunch of cats ran into camp! Star was among them. "I told you I'd come back." she growled. "Clawtroopers, attack!" The cats started attacking my Clanmates. I lept onto the back of one of them. I sank my claws into his skin, and held on. The cat shrieked and tried to buck me off, but I wouldn't let go. Finally, he rolled over.
"Yeoch!" I screamed as I was squashed. I managed to crawl away from him, and I looked around for Blossomberry. I ran toward her to help her. Suddenly a black she-cat pounced on top of me. I tried to run away, but she sank her teeth into my tail and pulled me back toward her. I winced at the stinging bite. I slashed my claws at her. She tugged on my ear. I yelped as my ear was torn. I finally escaped from her and ran to some other cats.
I saw a brown tom and a black-and white she-cat batting at some of the rogues. The two managed to kill one, and scare off some others. Two of the rogues pinned the two cats down and growled. Whisperpaw and Blossomberry seemed to notice.
"Bearpaw!" Whisperpaw cried.
"Marblepaw!" Blossomberry yowled.
They ran toward the apprentices. I raced toward the rogues. I batted my paws at one of them, before being fiercely bucked away. I groaned in pain. I slid toward Bearpaw and Marblepaw and knocked them out of the way. Blossomberry and Whisperpaw picked them up and helped them escape. One of the rogues looked at me, eyes narrowing. Oh no.
My body ached so much I couldn't attack the rogue. I tried to bat at the rogue, but I could barely lift my paw. The other rogue glared at me and pounced. I shrieked in pain as he raked his claws across my stomach.
Suddenly I saw a brown blur race toward the rogues. Although his scars were huge, he started attacking the rogues.
"Bearpaw!" Whisperpaw raced toward him. "I can't lose you like this!"
"You won't lose me." Bearpaw growled. "Because I'll make sure you don't." He swiped his claws across a rogues' eye. The black and white cat, Marblepaw, also started attacking the rogues. Blossomberry watched her. The rogues sliced at the apprentices, before being called by Star to retreat. I heard them shout back "This is not over!" as they left. I looked back at Bearpaw and Marblepaw.
I could tell by their scars that they wouldn't last for much longer.
Unfortunately, I was right. The two apprentices fell over, and their breathing tragically slowed.
Whisperpaw padded up to Bearpaw. "I loved you.." she cried.
"I loved you too." Bearpaw gasped out.
"Sister!" Blossomberry ran to Marblepaw.
"I'll be okay." Marblepaw mewed weakly. "I will make it to StarClan. And someday, we will be reunited..."
I watched as the two apprentices fell limp and left the world forever. Whisperpaw yowled in grief, and Blossomberry rested her head on Marblepaw. "They fought like warriors." I mewed.
"Yes they did." Blossomberry said sadly. "I wish there was a way they could be warriors although they died as apprentices..."
Echostar noticed us. "There is."
"Huh?" I tilted my head, confused.
"If an apprentice is worthy enough, and dies before it can recieve its warrior name, then the leader can hold a special ceremony so it can go to StarClan with a warrior name."
"Really?" Whisperpaw mewed. "Do the ceremony, please!!!"
"Okay." Echostar smiled. She lept up the HighLedge and called the Clan meeting. I struggled to reach the ledge, but then I decided to stay where I was since I hurt so much.
I listened to Echostar speak. "I, Echostar, call my warrior ancestors to look down on these two apprentices. They has given their lives in the service of her Clan and I commend her as a warrior in her turn. Bearpaw will be known as Bearstrike, and Marblepaw will be known as Marbleheart. Let StarClan recieve them by the names of Bearstrike and Marbleheart."
I heard the cats cheer, and Whisperpaw and Blossomberry cheered loudest.
"But there's another ceremony that needs to be performed today." Echostar said. "Come, Whisperpaw." I watched as Whisperpaw nervously padded up to the HighLedge.
Echostar spoke, "By naming warriors, we are showing that our clan is strong. I, Echostar, leader of RainClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in her turn. Whisperpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and protect and defend this Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
"Yes, I do." Whisperpaw tried to stay calm, but there was excitement in her voice.
"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Whisperpaw, from now on you'll be known as Whisperbreeze. StarClan honors your helpfulness, maturity and your loveliness and we welcome you as a full warrior of RainClan."
"Whisperbreeze! Whisperbreeze!" the other cats cheered. I tried to cheer as well, despite being in horrible pain. Blossomberry padded up to me. "Are you okay?" she asked.
"Tired.. dizzy... body hurts.... need Silverrose...!" I gasped out.
"Okay!" She picked me up and started to carry me to the medicine cat den. I tried to walk a bit as well, so Blossomberry wouldn't struggle. We finally made it to Silverrose's den. She wasn't in there. I assumed she was checking on some other cats. Silverrose padded in with some shiny objects. "I found these by the waterfall, and they're so pretty! I decided to put some in here, so the pretty colors can calm down patients."
I took a closer looked at the objects. Were they... starfish? I suddenly felt worse than before. I opened my mouth to call for help, but nothing came out. I tried to run off, but my paws were somehow pinned to the ground. I couldn't take the pain much longer. I passed out in seconds.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I saw a white cat in front of me. "Rosepaw..." she purred.
"Icepelt? What are you doing here?" I panicked. I couldn't be dead already!
"Calm down, Rosepaw." Icepelt mewed. "It's not your time to join us yet."
"Then why are you here?" I asked.
"Any mother, even a fake one, should be able to check on their kits." She let out a mrrow of laughter.
Suddenly, I saw her slowly fade away. "Huh? What's happening?!"
"You're regaining consciousness." Icepelt said.
"But, but I don't want to leave you!" I cried.
"You must." Icepelt meowed. "Goodbye, Rosepaw. And remember, in the first breaths of Newleaf is when the rose finally blossoms!"
Icepelt's words echoed in my mind as I woke up. I looked around. I saw Silverrose and Blossomberry. And there was another cat there. I realized it was my sister, Birdkit.
"Sister!" Birdkit mewed. "You're alive!"
"Birdkit." I meowed weakly. "Where are the other kits? Are they okay?"
"During the attack, the queens made us hide in some bushes. Everyone's okay, I think. A few minutes ago, Echostar said we could go back to the nursery, but when I heard that you were hurt, I ran by here right away!" Birdkit said.
I purred. "But what about the others?" I asked.
"Darkpaw got a scar on his muzzle," Silverrose mewed. "and Sunfeather got a deep gash on her shoulder. Those two, along with yours, were the main large injuries that were gotten. But I think you and they will all be okay."
Echostar padded up to the medicine cat den. She dropped a vole at my paws. "Thank you." I mewed and started to take a bite of it.
"You deserve it." Echostar purred. "You fought like a warrior back there." She left the den. Her words rang in my ears. ...fought like a warrior...
Chapter 20:
- Spoiler:
- It wasn't long before our next gathering. My sister Birdkit had become an apprentice, Birdpaw, with Ashwind as her mentor. I was sitting down when I heard a voice behind my back. "Hello, Rosepaw!"
I turned around. "Oh, Jewelpaw! Nice to see you again." I smiled.
"Did you notice the marks on the four trees?" she whispered after looking around.
My eyes widened. "I thought I was the only cat who had! The rose, the jewel, and the blade of wheat?"
She nodded. "The rose is faintly carved into the CloudClan tree as well! Are we important? And who is the wheat?"
"I'm not sure." I mewed, confused.
"Maybe we'll get a prophecy or something."
"I hope so! It's so confusing. What is StarClan trying to tell us?"
"Well, it has to be something big, or the trees wouldn't be engraved with our symbols, that's for sure."
Suddenly, I noticed something on her tail. "Great StarClan!" I jumped nearly a fox-length into the air. "What is that?" I saw something small and gray on her tail.
"It's a mouse!" Jewelpaw said. "I didn't think mice were dumb enough to wander into a crowd of cats!" We laughed. Jewelpaw killed it with a quick swipe, but then she collapsed along with it.
"Jewelpaw!" I gasped. "Are you okay."
"I think so." She got up. "But why did I fall as soon as I killed that mouse?"
I sighed. "Must be another sign from StarClan."
I've always felt a strange connection with StarClan. It was like a part of me belonged there. But what were they trying to tell us?
Chapter 21:
- Spoiler:
- I bounded after a small mouse. I pounced, but ended up sliding in the leaves. The mouse ran off, digging up leaves as it ran. The pieces of leaves ended up forming a jewel. "What does it mean?" I muttered.
I didn't have any more time to think because a large pack of dogs stood before me. They snarled as I started running again, but this time, for my life. I ran to the camp, where I saw that there were dogs already there. I ran off to the border, hoping I could lose them. There were dogs everywhere.
"Rosepaw!" I heard a voice behind me.
"Jewelpaw!"
"Rosepaw, save me!" Jewelpaw was being pinned down by a large dog. I lunged forward to help her, but another dog grabbed my scruff. The dog shook me vigorously as Jewelpaw called. "Rosepaw!"
"Rosepaw, get up!"
I jolted awake to see a white ball of fur bouncing on my back. "Whitekit?" I pushed her off of me. "What are you doing in my den?"
"Echostar says there's a ceremony! Come on!"
I got up and padded to the clearing.
Echostar spoke. "By naming apprentices, we are showing that our clan is strong. Whitekit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Whitepaw. Who would be a better mentor than your sister? Your mentor will be Mistystream. I know Mistystream will pass down all she knows on to you. Mistystream, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You had received excellent training and knowledge from the time you've been here so far, and you have shown yourself to be active and optimistic. You will be the mentor of Whitepaw, and I hope you pass on all you know to Whitepaw."
I gasped. Mistystream? It wasn't normal for relatives to be mentor and apprentice.
Echostar continued. My sister, Birdkit, padded up. Echostar said to her, "Birdkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Birdpaw. Your mentor will be Ashwind."
Ashwind was a good friend of mine. I smiled at the fact that he would be the mentor to my little sister.
"Ashwind, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have recieved excellent training when you yourself were an apprentice. I hope you pass on all you know to Birdpaw."
Everybody cheered for the new mentors and their apprentices. Now that it was Leafbare, we needed all the help we could to survive. I went on patrol with Whitepaw and Mistystream that day. I knew Whitepaw would become a great warrior.
Chapter 22:
- Spoiler:
- "Rosepaw, get ready for training!" Blossomberry called.
"Coming!" I yelled, padding over. Suddenly, something stopped me in my tracks, as if there was something I needed to see. There I had a vision.
I saw a group of mice running from something. They were escaping from the claws of a cat. "Help!!" one of the mice cried as the cat came closer.
"Sun Shaman! No!" another yelled.
But it was too late. The cat's claws swiped through Sun Shaman's neck. The other mouse ran over to him.
"Sun Shaman! You can't leave us." the mouse squealed.
"I'll be okay, Murecana. I will go to NocteTribe."
"There must be someone who can save us from all this misery." Murecana cried.
Sun Shaman gasped for breath, then said something sort of like a prophecy. "There will be a mouse, like a shining jewel. She alone will save you. She alone will protect you. She alone will love you." He took his last breath and died. Then I saw a faint figure in the distance. An orange tabby. Jewelpaw?
There the vision ended. I shook my head, snapping out of it. "Come on, Rosepaw!" my mentor shouted. "I'm going to show you my best bird stalking technique."
I ran to her. What could the vision mean? Was Jewelpaw supposed to rescue the mice from us cats? Mice were just mindless scraps of fur sent by StarClan to feed us.... weren't they? Besides, the only way she could understand a mouse would be if she was one. That couldn't be. All these prophecies were way too confusing.
Blossomberry showed me her technique. I copied it, but the bird I was stalking flew into a tree out of reach. I leaped up to grab it. Slowly I rose up, almost as if I was flying, and I grabbed the bird in my claws.
"That was amazing!" my mentor yowled.
"Thanks." I mewled, just as amazed.
Chapter 23:
- Spoiler:
- Ashwind, Birdpaw, Blossomberry, and I were in the training area. "Um, Rosepaw, can I talk with you in private for a minute?"
"Okay.." I said, kind of nervous. We padded to another area in the forest. "What is it you wanted to talk to me about?" I asked.
"Well," Ashwind said. "I know who killed Icepelt."
"You do!? Tell me!"
"It was," he looked at me. "my daughter."
I gasped. "I didn't even know you had a daughter!"
"She got exiled from her Clan, and she joined a band of rogues. One day she came to camp. I knew she was trying to kill me, but she got the wrong cat."
I sighed sadly."Well, we better get back to the others."
Birdpaw and I were battling each other when we heard a scream. I look behind me, and there were two Twolegs, a mother and her kit, running after us. We ran as fast as we could, but the kit grabbed me by my tail. I noticed the mother grabbed Birdpaw. "Help!" I yowled, but Ashwind and Blossomberry weren't in sight.
"I don't want to be a kittypet!" Birdpaw cried.
~~~~~~~~
The Twolegs brought us to their nest. They shoved collars on our necks. I saw no way of escaping, so I thought I might as well look around this dump.
I noticed that the nest had a small mouse in a cage. I put my paw in it to try to get it. Then the Twoleg sprayed water at me. I hissed in disgust. What's the point of mice if you can't eat them?
The next thing I saw was that there was a dog. It growled and slashed at me, which I replied to with a threatening hissed. Again, I was soaked with water. Couldn't they see the dog started it?
When the Twolegs went to bed, Birdpaw and I were left to sleep in small cat beds. "I wanna go home!" I heard Birdpaw yowl.
"Don't worry, sister." I whispered. "We're getting out of here."
Chapter 24:
- Spoiler:
- I crawled up to the window and pushed away the thin leaf-like stuff that was covering it. "How do you open this?" I muttered.
"Um, Rosepaw?" Birdpaw mewed. I turned around to see the dog. He growled and ran at us.
"Run!" I yowled. Birdpaw and I ran over to another den. "Look!" There was a small flap in the door, just big enough for us to get out. We ran out the flap. We were free!
The dog growled and ran out after us. The yard was surrounded with a large fence. We easily climbed over it. The dog couldn't climb over it though. "Dogs are so stupid." Birdpaw said.
We ran back to Clan territory. "Rosepaw!" a cat yowled.
"Darkpaw!" I ran over to my brother. "Can you help us get these collars off?"
"Sure." He yanked the collars off of us.
"I guess we should come back with prey so the Clan doesn't think we betrayed them." Birdpaw muttered.
"That sounds like a good idea." I said.
I found a mouse. I sneaked up on it and killed it. I lost my balance and fell, and it tumbled in the middle of the Thunderpath. I was too scared to get it. "Don't worry, I'll get it." Darkpaw said. He ran into the Thunderpath and got the mouse.
"Look out!" I cried.
A monster ran right at him. He ran off just in time. "Phew." I sighed.
We ran back to camp.
"Rosepaw, Birdpaw, you're back!" Blossomberry yowled. I ran over to her. Darkpaw put the mouse in the fresh-kill pile.
I actually felt kind of guilty killing the mouse. I didn't know why. It must have something to do with the weird mouse visions I've been having lately. I'd be okay.
Wouldn't I?
Chapter 25:
- Spoiler:
- One morning I woke up and the ground was covered with white. I walked out of the den and stepped into some of it. I squealed and ran back into the den. "Cold, isn't it?" Whitepaw laughed.
"You never seen snow before?" Blossomberry purred, amused.
"No, I was born in Greenleaf, remember?"
"Come on, it's fun!" Blossomberry ran into the clearing.
"Let's go!" Whitepaw and I followed her. "This is fun!" I squealed.
"Check this out!" Glimmerpaw flung some snow at Whitepaw like a moss-ball. She licked the snow off of her long white fur. Then she threw some snow back at Glimmerpaw.
Blossomberry sneaked up and threw some snow at me. I hissed playfully and pounced on her. We ran across the camp. Suddenly Blossomberry stopped, but I kept running. I noticed what Blossomberry saw and I stopped, but the icy floor kept me going until I slid into a snowdrift.
"Well look what the blizzard blew in!" Darkpaw walked up, laughing.
I responded by throwing some of the snow in his face.
Chapter 26:
- Spoiler:
- The snow was high for a long time, until it finally started to melt. Now it was completely melted, but it, along with constant rain, made the ground wet almost all the time. Now it was, at last, Newleaf. It felt good to have decent warm weather again, although I'd miss the beautiful ice.
Today Blossomberry padded up to me with a huge grin. "Today you are going to have your warrior assessment." she said.
If she had told me that I had super powers, I wouldn't have been more happy or suprised.
"You are to go in the river and get at least four fish." she said.
It seemed easy to me. And all I had to do was that and I'd be a warrior in no time!
I raced further down the river, which we called Falls River, because it came from water from the waterfall. I silently slipped into the water, my eyes open for prey (and starfish, which I wanted to avoid). Suddenly I saw a fish, and quickly killed it. I got out of the water to bury my catch. I stayed on shore so fish wouldn't see me, and I could notice some that were close to surface. When I noticed some fish, I leaped in and grabbed one.
I stayed at the river until I had caught six fish. I knew Blossomberry would be pleased.
I brought my prey to Blossomberry. "Awesome job." she said, and I knew I had passed. It wouldn't be long until my warrior ceremony now!
Chapter 27:
- Spoiler:
- A day or two later, there was a Clan meeting.
"As you all know, by naming warriors we show that our Clan remains strong. Today, I will name a new warrior who has deserved this position for a long time." Echostar started. "I, Echostar, leader of RainClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained long and hard to understand the ways of your noble Code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in her turn. Rosepaw, do you promise to uphold the Warrior Code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
"I do, Echostar!" I mewed, finding it very difficult to contain my excitement.
Echostar went on. "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Rosepaw, from this moment, you will be known as Roseblossom, for you have had a great mentor in Blossomberry, and you, the rose, has certainly blossomed into a great warrior. StarClan honors your patience and optimism, and I welcome you as a full warrior of RainClan."
Everyone cheered, my mentor Blossomberry the loudest, "Roseblossom! Roseblossom! Roseblossom!"
After the meeting, Blossomberry ran up to me. "I'm so proud of you," she cried. I was proud too. Maybe now that I was a warrior, I could find the answer to the many mysteries that I wanted to know about. I was ready.
Chapter 28:
- Spoiler:
- I was walking around the territory by myself. I could scent something around the border. I looked and I saw a yellow figure. It smelled familiar.
"Back off, Star!" I yowled, running toward her. I stopped right at the border when I saw who it was. "Jewelpaw?"
"Hi, Rosepaw!" she said.
"You can call me Roseblossom now. I got my warrior name yesterday!"
"Awesome!" Jewelpaw said.
"And sorry I almost attacked you. I thought you were... somebody else." I added, kind of embarassed.
"It's fine." she meowed.
"So, I'll see you later." I padded off into my own territory.
"Bye!"
Chapter 29:
- Spoiler:
- Birdpaw and I were going hunting together. "Roseblossom, where's Whitepaw?" Birdpaw asked. "I saw Mistystream earlier, but she wasn't with her."
"Whitepaw's doing her assessment, remember?" I said.
"Oh yeah." Birdpaw said. "When will I have my assessment? Whitepaw and I were apprenticed on the same day. So what's the problem? Doesn't Ashwind think I'm good enough?"
"Of course you're good. You've always been a great apprentice. But there's a lot to learn before you can become a warrior. There's basic fighting moves, swimming, hunting birds, fish-"
"Mouse!" she hissed quietly.
"Yeah, mice, too." I went on, not paying attention.
"No, I mean, mouse!" Birdpaw said. I looked, and there was a small little mouse near a tree stump. I looked at it, not really wanting to kill it for some reason.
"Well, don't stand there like a dazed squirrel!" she rolled her eyes. "Kill it!"
I had to think of an excuse. "Well, that mouse is... kind of scrawny, don't you think? That thrush over there is nice and big." I pointed with my tail to a nearby thrush. "Maybe you can kill it and carry it back... so Ashwind knows how good you're doing."
Her eyes lit up. "Good idea!"
I sighed with relief.
"Did you say something?" Birdpaw asked after she caught the bird.
"No, I'm just... glad that you caught the thrush. You're a quick learner."
Birdpaw and I walked back to camp, Birdpaw carrying the thrush.
"That's all you could catch?" Darkpaw said.
"Well, with all the rain, I doubt any prey would wanna be outside." Birdpaw noted.
"Yeah." I said. I didn't really appreciate the rain either. In some places in the territory, the water could completely cover my paws. I just hoped it wouldn't result in anything dangerous.
