WolfClan Book 2: Darkness Rises

"Thank you!" said Shadepaw.

"You're welcome…" was Meteorflash's quiet reply.

Shadepaw sniffed the air and chased after a rabbit.

Meteorflash padded a bit farther away from Shadepaw.

Shadepaw pounced on it and gave it a swift bite to the neck

I guess if I said I was hunting, I probably should, Meteorflash thought, sniffing out some prey.

Shadepaw hid his prey in the bushes then went after a vole.

Shadowdragon sat in camp, eating a rabbit

Blackshadow came rushing out of the apprentices den, chased by two young kits. "OUT OUT!" She cried happily. An angry looking apprentice stepped just outside the den. his fur fluffed in rage. The kits laughed as they bounded around the panting Blackshadow. "I can't keep doing this" She laughed to the youngsters "I'm not a kit anymore, like you are. Now, go run along." She watched the two kits run off "My children" she thought "I love them so much, they don't know. But sometimes, they're slightly more than I can handle." She walked over to get some prey.

Shadowdragon smiled at Blackshadow. He always wondered who was the father of her kits but he never asked.

She crouched down, after pulling a plum robin from the pile. She wasn't very hungry, so she decided to pick a piece of prey that would take a while to eat. She started trying to remove the feathers. "Hey Shadowdragon." She said with a calm smile. "You were just on patrol, right? How did that go?" She stretched her paws, and yawned simultaneously before she returned to plucking robin feathers.

Shadowdragon purred and took another bite of his rabbit. "It was great!" he purred. "I have something to ask though. Whose the father of your kits?"

Blackshadow looked up curiously "don't you know? It's-" She was interrupted as Mistkit came running up "MOMMA! IT'S GALEKIT! HE FELL INTO THE RIVER!" Blackshadow gasped. Jumping to her feet. "Show me!" Mistkit took off. Blackshadow took off after her.

Shadowdragon ran after them. "Why were you near the river in the first place? That's too close to Snakestar's territory for you kits."

"They're not even supposed to leave the camp!" "I knew he wasn't supposed to leave! I chased after him! Then, he turned it into a game of chase, and wasn't looking where he was going!" She sobbed. Blackshadow skidded to a halt at the bank of the river. She looked around the water, it was hard to locate movement, because the whole river was moving so swiftly, it created rapids. Eventually she saw Galekit's helpless little body struggling in the water. "GALEKIT!" She whipped around "Mistkit, stay with Shadowdragon, OK?" Mistkit nodded. Blackshadow whipped around, and jumped into the water.

She dove down deep. paddling with all her might, and looking for Galekit. Suddenly she gagged, she wanted so badly to take a breath of air. She swam to the surface, and took a gasp of air, and before she even closed her mouth, she was swept under by the rapids she gave a small cough, then opened her eyes, she looked up, and saw Galekit's body. It was limp. "Oh no!"

"No!" yowled Shadowdragon, staring at the limp body.

Mistkit groaned nervously. She leaned against Shadowdragon.

She swam to the surface. She broke it, and just before another patch of rapids, she grabbed Galekit in her jaws, and dove. She decided to swim under the rapids as to not breathe in any water. When she came up to the other side. She gasped for breath. Temporarily dropping Galekit into the water. She picked him up again, and started swimming towards the beach. She was swimming rather weakly. She was about to climb onto the river bank, when the rapids caught her tail. She was swept away, but she made sure to drop Galekit on solid ground before she was completely swept away, but she had lost her strength, and couldn't fight the currents anymore.

"MOMMY!" Mistkit cried

"Blackshadow!" he yowled, running along the river.

She didn't seem to be really trying anymore, she just caught a breath when she could, and tried to dog paddle towards the riverbank. (Which she was failing to do.) She seemed to be slightly panicked though, as she was swept downstream

Shadowdragon stretched out and held out his paws. "Grab on!"

She tried, but the river swept her by too fast. "SHADOWDRAGON!! HELP!" She wailed right before she was swept underwater

Shadowdragon jumped into the river and quickly swam towards her, his muscles helped him from being pulled away. He grabbed hold of her and swam towards shore.

She relaxed when he grabbed her. And Just let him carry her, though she did slowly paddle, and keep her head above water, when she broke the surface, she gasped a huge gasp and started coughing again.

Once she was on the shore she collapsed. "I'm...so sorry" She panted, then coughed a bit more. "G...Gale..Kit..?" She tried to get up, but collapsed again, panting

Shadowdragon nuzzled her. "You're safe."

She purred roughly "Th..Thanks.." And she nuzzled him slightly in return.

Mistkit came running, Galekit slumped over her back. "MOMMY! DADDY!"
She skidded to a halt infront over her parents, and hugged her mom "Mommy.." Then she hugged Shadowdragon. "Daddy..."
