Great. Now who am I supposed to get? Gatorpaw thought. Suddenly he had an idea. He went and got another piece of fresh-kill and handed it to Lynxpaw. "Here, you can be it too!" he whispered to him. "Go after Shiningpaw." Lynxpaw nodded and ran after her. Gatorpaw then picked up his own mouse-tag mouse and ran over toward Rainpaw.

Great idea. He's so smart... Rainpaw thought, before noticing him gaining on her. She turned and kept running. She looked back and smiled at Gatorpaw before speeding up.

Gatorpaw chased Rainpaw.

Rainpaw kept running, but had to slow down a little. "Whew, I'm getting tired..."

"Me too," Gatorpaw said, also slowing down.

"I have an idea," Rainpaw mewed. "Let's hide in those ferns and eat the mouse!" she laughed. "Since Lynxpaw has that other one they won't even know or care."

"Great idea!" Gatorpaw purred. He walked into the ferns.

Rainpaw followed him. In the ferns she settled down next to Gatorpaw and took a bite of the mouse once he set it down. "It's a little ruffled from the game, but it's yummy."

She sighed. "It's cool to be alone with you like this Gatorpaw." She quickly looked away embarrassed, kinda regretting what she said. "I-I mean... you're a fun cat." she stammered.

{If Rainpaw only knew... }

Sandshadow noticed the way Rainpaw seemed to be falling for Gatorpaw. "Looks like we've got a bit of an apprentice crush." he chuckled quietly to himself.

"You're a fun cat too." Gatorpaw said. He took a bite of the mouse. "We should totally do this more often. Um, the game, I mean, not just the alone part. I mean, oh forget it." He looked away.

Wow, maybe he feels the way I do! "Heh, thanks Gatorpaw. Yeah, I know what you mean, this is really fun." Rainpaw paused to take a bite. "I'd party like today forever if our apprentice duties didn't keep us busy."

This scene looks familiar. Sandshadow thought to himself. It reminds me of when I was talking to Bluepaw once during a party.

"Yeah," Gatorpaw replied. "If I were leader, we could do this forever." And I WILL be leader! Gatorpaw thought.

"Oh yes! And I'd be honored to serve a leader like you. Unless I end up being leader..." She said with a laugh. "Just kidding, you'd be great." Rainpaw gulped down the last bite of mouse. "Well.... we should get back to the game before they miss us," she said, slightly disappointed to get back to reality. Rainpaw quickly licked Gatorpaw behind his ear a couple times, then sprinted out of the ferns. She still felt a little embarrassed as she ran further, peering around for her friends.

Sandshadow smiled as Rainpaw appeared from the ferns. "You like him, don't you?" he whispered to her. "Honestly, Rainpaw, any cat could see it. You're obviously crushing on Gatorpaw!" Sandshadow smiled. Had Rainpaw even noticed that all of the other cats might have known even without her telling them? If it wasn't obvious to everyone else, which it definitely was, then it was obvious to Sandshadow. He may have been a grumpy old elder, but that didn't mean he didn't know a thing or two about love.

"No no nooooo nothing of the sort." She said, nervously. After a pause she continued, "Oh fine, you got me! Just stay out of my fur ok?" Rainpaw smiled, blushing. Let's get back to the game, all right? She ran off shouting "who's it?!"

Gatorpaw smiled and walked out of the ferns.

Rainpaw briefly looked back and saw Gatorpaw just coming out. "Come on Gatorpaw!" she shouted gleefully. As she ran, Rainpaw noticed Lynxpaw ahead of her. "You still it?" she called to him.

"Yeah!" Lynxpaw laughed. "I'm gonna get you, Gatorpaw!"
"Oh no you don't!" Gatorpaw shouted as he ran.

Rainpaw watched, ready to sprint if they got close.

Sandshadow laughed and joined in the fun.

Gatorpaw laughed. "Come on Rainpaw! Don't let Lynxpaw catch you!" He ran past her.

"Is that a challenge? 'Cause I would never!" Rainpaw smiled and let out a mrrow of laughter, and raced on.

Gatorpaw laughed and kept running.

Rainpaw closed her eyes for a split second, with a moony look on her face. "Oh you're sooo awesome..." she accidentally said out loud. Rainpaw quickly realized, super embarrassed. "I didn't say anything!" She sped ahead to avoid being confronted.
