Redwing looked thoughtful for a moment. "Ma'am, I think letting them have a little power will gain you more power and respect then you could ever have, the way you're going about leading your clan." Redwing was becoming more and more honest with her as she became more and more honest with him. And as he did, his internal fear that she'd snap, that he had been shoving down this whole time, just grew, becoming harder and harder to fight, and keep from showing. "But... Yes, our clan is healthy. They are strong in numbers and strong in spirit. Even if they aren't loyal to us, they're loyal to each other." The red tom maintained his serious, near monotone voice.

Finchstar turned the words over in her mind. "Perhaps you're right. A Clan in fear of its leader cannot thrive." She glanced at the serious tom through appraising eyes. "Redwing, you're my deputy, and that should mean we have a partnership in leading this Clan. I suppose I should listen to your guidance. If I stand alone, I will fall." She kept a fierce tone to combat the admission of weakness in her words. "You've earned the right to lead alongside me. We can bring our Clan back to greatness."

When she looked over at him, Redwing had his head low, and ears partly flattened in submission, but he slightly lifted is head at her words. "You really think so, huh? Well, we'll see how willing we both are to change in the end. For now.." he stood seeming less shaky. "I'm feeling much better, how about you?"

"I'm willing." Finchstar meowed with challenge in her tone. "I'm feeling alright." She still felt strange after losing a life. The immediate fatigue was already lessening, but she felt off somehow, like a piece of her was missing. She made no move to stand next to the deputy, though, and instead lifted her front paw to her mouth and began biting the dirt and blood out of her claws. "Do you think we should catch something to eat?" She didn't feel hungry, but was worried that she didn't have the strength to travel far.

Redwing noticed that she didn't get up, but didn't react. "Looks like I'm hunting." he nodded to her. "Probably for the best." He turned and walked off. Not super inclined to run just yet. He wondered how much his Ability had recovered. It'd save allot of energy to use it, if he could.

picking up the pace to a trot he opened his jaws and scented for prey, taking a moment to listen to the distant bird calls, and gentle rustle of the wind through the bushes and trees. He picked up the scent of a jackrabbit, and turned invisible. For some reason it made every muscle ache and throb with pain, and his eyes sting. he assumed, closing his eyes tightly, that it was because he had drained his strength so much already. in fact, he was surprised his invisibility cloak was stable at all. But he knew he had to hurry.

So not caring if he stepped on twigs or brushed leaves knowing that the rabbit wouldn't run cause it couldn't see him, he trotted towards it, keeping downwind  from the prey. Once he saw it, he slowed to a leisurely walk. he walked right up behind the now frightened animal, for it could smell him at this distance, he turned visible and sprung on it, quickly giving it the killing bite.

Everything hurt to the point where he made a soft moan of pain. He decided against trying to keep hunting, and carrying the rabbit, made his way back towards Finchstar. By the time he got back to her he was feeling a bit better. he lay the rabbit at her paws, and crouched in front of her. once again waiting for her to take the first bite.

After Redwing padded off without her, Finchstar stood and shook out her black pelt. No way was she going to lie around like useless fresh-kill while her deputy hunted. After only a moment of standing, she immediately felt faint, but walked leisurely off in the direction of the dead wolf.
When she reached the carcass, she stood over it like an artist admiring her work. The back was crushed, thanks to the stone, but deep lacerations marked its pelt and blood stained the earth below it.
Did Redwing do all this? He's more of a fighter than I'd guessed.
She took a final glance at its still-snarling face and turned away from the slain beast. Using her ability, she dragged the body under a shrub and left it there where it wouldn't attract other predators to her and Redwing.
A loud call sounded overhead and Finchstar looked up to see a thrush flying above her. Glaring at it, she froze its movement in midair and yanked it down to her, where she let go of her mind's grip the bird and let it flutter frantically for a heartbeat before she gave it the killing bite. Satisfied with her catch, she trotted back to the bush and tucked it underneath its dead branches before curling up next to it.
She didn't have to wait long before Redwing returned with a rabbit and dropped it at her paws. "Good catch." She said approvingly, and curled her tail around her own thrush to draw his attention to it. "And we have something to take home to our Clan." She bent low to take a bite of the rabbit.

Redwing nodded respectfully at her comment. "nice catch yourself." He replied curtly. Once she had taken her first bite of the rabbit, he began eating himself. kneading the rabbit a little bit as he tore a second bite. He slowly felt stronger and less achy as he got more energy from his meal. And he realized by the time they were done eating, his Ability would have had the time needed to fully recover. He relaxed a bit at the thought. For once feeling somewhat comfortable in Finchstar's presence. Not that the fact she may be judging him wasn't weighing on his mind, he just... Forgot she was there, for the most part, for a minute.

When the rabbit was finished, Finchstar broke the comfortable silence by clearing her throat. "I think killing a wolf was enough of a success for this patrol." She meowed. "If you didn't scent anything unusual while you were hunting, we've been through enough today to go home." She stood and picked up her thrush, not bothering to ask whether Redwing was rested and ready to head off again. The meal had replenished her strength, and she assumed it had for him as well.

Redwing stetched and stood. "Yes, ma'am." He fell in beside her. His fluffy pelt bouncing slightly with his step. The tom remained silent. Staring absent minded out at the scenery. Why had Finchstar seemed to have such a sudden change of heart? He would have expected her to snap violently at him at least four times by now if she were in her right mind... Or... Usual mind...

His face showed none of his pondering, however. Just a slightly distant expression.

"I mean... she didn't even snap at me when I basically told her she was leading the clan wrong! What's going on with her?" Redwing was starting to feel a little wary and on edge. Maybe the she-cat was sick, and just too tired to put up any fight? The tom had never seen a leader's loss of a life drain them so much though.

They began approaching the river.

Wasn't the regeneration of a life supposed to bring back renewed energy to the leader? Redwing's expression went unchanged, even as a plausible theory crossed his mind. What if a leader's personality changed every time they died? To match the life they were given? Redwing tensed as he continued approaching the river. He didn't want to go through so many personalities. As much fear and anxiety and trauma as he battled, he wouldn't change it for the-

SPLASH

Redwing suddenly found his paws churning at nothing, having fallen into the river for not watching where he was going. He parted his jaws for a startled yowl, but just silently watched as bubbles escaped his mouth. He struggled to break the surface, but he couldn't tell which way was up, he hadn't been paying attention when he was thinking, why hadn't he payed attention?! One of his paws painfully scraped against a rock on the riverbed. Redwing winced, but placed his hind legs firmly on the rock, and using all the strength he could muster, shoved up. quickly churning his paws once again to try and bring his mussel to the safety of the air above him. His lungs ached by now, Redwing was not exactly practiced in swimming. Finally his mussel poked into the cool evening air, and he gasped. His front paws flailing wildly. His front paw, the same one as before, ooww, snagged a tree root reaching to the water desperately for nutrients it so needed in this harsh, cold environment.

Digging his claws in, he struggled to hang onto the root. Once his entire head and shoulders were out of the water, pulled close to the root, he began coughing, barely able to catch his breath from the force of his fit he was having.

(Ivymoon and Bluepoppy sound great!)
As the two cats walked, Finchstar's mind felt blank and cloudy, too much so for her to concentrate on anything but the absence within her. To think that, only a few moons prior, she only had one life. How could she have even managed?
The first life she had been given had been for courage. Finchstar remembered a fire burning through her as she touched noses with the dead apprentice who told her that he was a brother of Ravenstar who died in his first fight. He had told her to use this life wisely, but Finchstar hadn't done anything particularly courageous since becoming leader.
Indeed, if felt as though a fire had been extinguished inside of her and replaced by a heavy smoke. Could it be the same fire given to her with a life of courage? What if, as she lost her lives, she lost their merits one by one until she was nothing but a shell? Could this be StarClan's curse upon her?
Finchstar paused as she and Redwing came to the river and prepared to push the water away from the rocks again when the red tom stepped over the bank and fell like a stone into the churning water.
That blundering fool! Finchstar was about to pull him from the water with her Ability when she realized that the only other time she had turned her gift on another cat had resulted in his death. Cursing herself, she realized that her powers were too delicate and temperamental for her to risk saving Redwing that way.
The black leader searched the water for Redwing before seeing his muzzle struggling to stay above the waves. Relief flooded over her and she hoped that her deputy could manage to stay afloat for a little while longer.
Finchstar had a secret she had guarded from the other cats in her lakeside Clan, who caught fish as a staple of their diet and often swam in the lake for fun in growing season.
Finchstar was afraid of water.
She always crossed the territory's rivers and streams by using her power flamboyantly to create a path of stones or fallen trees, which came off to other cats as her usual arrogant displays of strength. She only caught fish by pulling them out of the water from the shore using her mind. She was confident enough in her Ability that she wasn't anxious to cross water like she was as an apprentice, but the leader had always sworn to herself that she would never set foot in water that she couldn't easily wade through. She refused to learn to swim as an apprentice, and didn't know how even as a leader.
Finchstar stood paralyzed by the river's edge before forcing herself to spring into action. "Redwing, hold on!" She called out, more of an order than words of encouragement. She raced to the water's edge at the base of the tangle of tree roots, still a few tail-lengths above the river, but quickly realized that there was no way for her to reach the end of Redwing's root from the bank.
Dead cats can't take away my courage.
"Hold on!" She repeated and carefully edged her way down the twisting roots, relieved to find easy pawholds among the tangle. When she got as close to the water as she would allow herself, she realized that Redwing's root, forming a sort of loop above the river's rushing surface, was a longer distance from the tangle of roots than it had appeared. Finchstar stretched her paw as far as she could, but was still more than a tail-length away from reaching the red tom.
She closed her eyes and tried to think of a plan as droplets sprayed her whiskers.
"Redwing, there's a mat of roots only a few tail-lengths towards me." She spoke as calmly and plainly as she could above the sound of rushing water, knowing that Redwing felt the same panic she was fighting and hoping he could hear her. "If you swim towards me, you'll be able to climb out."

Mythic Glade (MountainClan RolePlay) - Page 4 Empty Re: Mythic Glade (MountainClan RolePlay)

Post by Tornadostorm Tue Nov 21, 2017 5:09 pm

Redwing heard her calling to him, which resulted in a bubble of emotions, so before he could stop himself, and very very much to his deep shame, let out a loud desperate "muuurroooooowww!" that sounded rather pathetic. He followed it with a quiet growl to himself, How dare he let himself meow like that?! He was a deputy standing... Er... Swimming... Before his leader! He shouldn't act weak! He forced his hind legs, which were being helplessly dragged by the current, to twist so he was facing Finchstar on the opposite bank. He locked eyes with her. "You can do this." He told himself and he sprung forward, kicking off the riverbed wall the root was coming from. But the movement of the root had loosened a large chunk of dirt above it. And Redwing kicking off the riverbank, and letting go of the root, causing it to bounce slightly as it sprung back into it's place, was enough to dislodge the dirt completely.

It fell on top of Redwing, forcing him back under the surface

Redwing's surprised gasp was cut short as his face was shoved under water, causing him to accidentally breathe in a small amount of water. He pawed frantically, but was being quickly carried down river. He pushed towards the surface, and he actually made it to the surface, but a little net of small routes blocked him from actually getting air. His lungs hurt, and he fought every urge to cough, knowing a cough started by a deep breath in.

He dove down again, his nose felt plugged, and he was quickly growing more and more desperate. he struggled with every muscle to not breathe. "Am I gonna black out?" He thought, the thought causing an icy cold shock of panic to rush through him. He looked up, barely able to see anything, or open his eyes at all. the thick layer of blue clouding his vision made seeing the surface difficult. But what he didn't see was roots stretching above him on the surface anymore, so he pushed his way back up.

His legs and back ached, his head throbbed, and he could feel every cell in his lungs for how much pain they were in. He surfaced again, and almost took a breath, but first came some violent chest wrenching coughs. He gasped desperately and loudly for air mid coughing fit to no avail. the splashes from the current kept washing over his face, blinding him and disorienting him, and making both coughing and trying to get a breath extremely difficult. And he was so tired at this point he could barely make each paw move. His pelt felt thick and heavy like a cloak of weight pulling back at him, coaxing him to stay under water, to stop fighting, that he wouldn't make it.

He continued coughing so hard he thought he'd cough his lungs right through his throat, or rip them in the process. He tried to paw desperately for something, anything to grab onto but failed at every paw swipe, blinded by the onrush of splashes, and the jolting motion of his coughing. Finally he managed to get one breath. Relief washed over him, he had SOME air in his lungs. But he was so far down stream now he had lost sight of Finchstar, or of the roots he had tried to swim for in the first place.

He let out a loud meow, trying to locate her, or at least help her locate him, before a burst of high speed currents pulled the battered red tom back under the deadly layer of water once again.

Finchstar stretched out her muzzle when Redwing leapt towards her, hoping to grab his scruff in her teeth as he found a pawhold, only to recoil in horror when he was once again forced beneath the surface. She clung to the roots, frozen in fear, for what felt like only a moment, but she was snapped out of her paralysis when she heard Redwing coughing from downstream. She quickly climbed the twisted roots, her heart aching with relief and her mind thinking more clearly when she was away from the churning water. She raced along the river's edge until she caught sight of the tom for only an instant before he was pulled back under the surface with a cry.
"Redwing!" She called out, worried, but not letting the panic show in her voice. She paced anxiously on the water's edge for Redwing to resurface. After a short amount of time passed and the deputy had yet to resurface, Finchstar's blood turned to ice.
She darted downstream, and eventually caught sight of his red pelt under the water being tossed around like fresh-kill by the relentless river. Frantically, she looked around for something she could use to save him, but deep down she knew she would have to brave the water to get her deputy out alive.
Finchstar didn't know how to swim, and certainly wouldn't be able to carry the much larger cat against the force of the current, but she had to find a way to escape with Redwing. Racing past the tom, she threw a log into the river with her ability and waited for it to settle between some roots before she hopped on. That left her within leaping distance of a small jutting stone, where she could grab Redwing as he rushed past. From there, she would need to swim from the stone to the log. It would be risky, but Finchstar told herself that it would be just like running through the water.
She set her plan in action and hopped onto the stone. She nearly tipped over due to its small size and the water flowing over her paws, but managed to stay upright as Redwing floated nearer. Now!

Redwing had been trying to paw his way back to the surface, or at least somewhat control his movement, but he was so weak and tired from fighting at this point, that he didn't have the strength to fight the water.

Redwing's mind was numb as he kept tumbling through the water, his lungs hurting from lack of air.

Suddenly he felt jaws clamp around his scruff and start to pull. He was confused as to what was going on, but hadn't the strength to fight or check. He let himself be dragged, until he felt his mussel break free of the water. He took a deep breath. Relieved to have access to air once again. He didn't think to help whoever was dragging him by kicking his feet, or pulling himself out of the water. When the cat put him down again, he just lay there, eyes closed, taking several deep breathes to just try and recover. His pelt looked soaked and slick, like a wet drowned rat as he lay there, chest heaving after being deprived of oxygen.

Finchstar lay as much of Redwing on the rock as she could- his back legs were still dangling in the water. They couldn't stay on the rock for long, as one sudden wave could send the two cats tumbling off. Redwing's eyes were closed, but he was breathing strongly and he seemed to be conscious. She figured she'd give him a change to catch his breath for as long as she could.
Anxiously, she tried not to look at the water that surrounded her on all four sides and lapped at her paws. As long as it's not above me.
"Redwing." She prodded the seemingly half-conscious cat with her paw. "Are you fit to move? We need to get to that log over there," she motioned with her teal-ringed tail, "But I can't carry you if you don't try to pull your own weight."

Redwing blinked his eyes open when he was prodded. He looked up blearily at his leader, and started to stand. "ye-yea-" He suddenly started coughing violently again. After several violent coughs, he started coughing up water. he unsheathed his claws, latching them as best he could into the little crevices in the rock to keep his balance.

He kept coughing, still coughing up a little water, until he suddenly took a huge dramatic breath, making a loud gasp, followed by one much softer cough. and then he just sat there for a second, his eyes wide with shock. In an extremely raspy hoarse voice he whispered "Yeah. Yeah.. Let's get to shore.. I-I'm fine." He stood, resisting every urge to shake his fur out as to not splash and irritate his rescuer, and eyed the log for a moment, before bunching his legs, and springing for it.

He landed squarely on the water soaked log, feeling it dip slightly under his weight. He was relieved to feel his claws sink into the softened wood. Once he had gotten he balance back, he ran along the log until he was back on the shore. there he turned, and looked towards Finchstar, making sure she made the jump.

(Dramatic, yes, but he woulda drowned if he hadn't coughed that up. (considering when the dirt fell on him he breathed some water (and possibly a lil dirt although I doubt that) in) Realism people QuQ;

But I won't be that dramatic for a while, I promise x'D)

Finchstar stared in begrudging concern as Redwing coughed up the water in his lungs. He could have died. Maybe now he'll start watching where he puts his paws. She watched anxiously as he prepared to jump onto the log. Does he really think he can jump? He's half-drowned, and he must weigh as much as a fox with his pelt sopping wet.
The black cat was about to warn him of the risk when the big tom launched himself at the log and landed on it gracefully. I thought I'd have to pull him through the water! With a leap that powerful, perhaps he has the gift of strength? Redwing trotted up the log with ease like the river hadn't nearly killed him, and Finchstar's pelt burned with shame at her own idiotic fear of the water.
Quickly and haphazardly, as if she was defying the river, she sprung onto the log, feeling satisfied when her claws found hold in the soft wood at its end. Her leap was not as graceful as her deputy's, as she had landed off-center, and before she could fully regain her balance, the log lurched under her weight and she was thrown into the river.
(I want to have Finch save herself and maybe get over some of her fear of water, so whatever you have Redwing do could he not get her all the way back to shore? Haha thanks)

(Gotcha) Redwing hissed in shock when she was thrown into the water when she misjudged the leap
He moved to leap in after her, but he realized he was so tired and weak from his earlier experience with the river, and his coat so water logged and heavy he had used his remaining strength making the jump from the rock to the log. so he settled for following the river in as perky a pace as he could muster, (which wasn't very perky) and trying to keep tabs on his leader, either under the surface, or poking her head above the water for a breath.

Mythic Glade (MountainClan RolePlay) - Page 4 Empty Re: Mythic Glade (MountainClan RolePlay)

(I'm so sorry about such a late reply! I've been so busy with finals but now I'm back home, thanks so much for waiting hopefully we can go back to RPing as much as before!)
Finchstar's world was water.
She was completely enveloped in the river, and as the current tumbled her head over tail, she no longer knew which direction was up and which was down. Her lungs were screaming for air, and the panic in her head was slowly being replaced by calm as her vision faded.
Suddenly, Finchstar's head struck a rock, and she saw stars float in front of her eyes. Has StarClan come to claim me?
She pushed away the ridiculous thought and forced the last bit of her energy into hurling herself at the rock before she was pulled past it. Her paws couldn't find a hold in the slippery algae, but she was able to use the rock to propel herself upwards- or downwards, she couldn't tell. This question was answered when her black head broke the surface of the river.
She was immediately forced back under the water, but not before she drew in a bit of air. She hadn't seen her surroundings enough to fully orient herself, and she had no idea as to Redwing's whereabouts, but making contact with the air had shown her what direction was up.
Not wanting to waste any time, she tried to swim towards the surface by moving her legs like she was running. It wasn't enough to defy the current that battered at her face as she tried to fight it.
Steady, Finchstar, the leader forced out the panic that was attempting to take hold of her mind. She sheathed her claws and spread her toes before moving her legs in a sort of hybrid motion between running and digging. It was a weak paddle, but enough for her to break the surface once again, this time with a defiant snarl, and stay there.
Fighting the exhaustion and panic that threatened to overwhelm her, she kept up her swimming against the current and looked for a way out of the river. She was closer to the far bank of the stream, the side where her Clan's territory lay, but tall and smooth stones lined the water's edge.

Redwing's ears perked as he saw her break the surface, and he called "Hang on Finchstar! I'll find a way to get you out!" He tried to pick up the pace, breathlessly panting as he trotted along the water's edge. Up ahead he noticed a shallow waterfall. The fall wouldn't kill Finchstar, but there might be sharp rocks at the bottom "FINCHSTAR!! THERE'S A WATERFALL UP AHEAD" He hissed to her. Mustering every ounce of energy to run ahead and try to find something he could stand on to catch her as she went past him. "this isn't good... Come on, Redwing, FASTER!" "GAH!" The red-furred tom tripped, tumbling to a quick stop in the grass near the water. He slowly tried to sit up. His legs were shaky, and his one front paw hurt, throbbing like a fox was chewing on it. He stood, his three good legs struggling to handle his weight. He limped after Finchstar. Scanning the water for her. Maybe by some miracle she hadn't passed him when he tripped.

Finchstar's eyes met Redwing's and her eyes widened when he warned her about the waterfall that she was approaching. She fought the urge to twist around and see for herself, but she hadn't the time nor the energy. Instead, she frantically picked up the pace of her paddle and focused on keeping her nose above the water, but it wasn't nearly strong enough to fight the current. The roar of the waterfall overwhelmed her senses, and she cast a look through slitted eyes at Redwing before she disappeared from view under the water at the top of the waterfall.

Redwing hissed When he saw her go under the water at the top of the small waterfall. he ran over to the edge, and ignoring his paw, leapt down to the base of the waterfall "Finchstar?! FINCHSTAR?!!!" He looked around for her, pacing the water. This was baad.

With a roar like a lion's, Finchstar hauled herself upwards from the ridge of the waterfall. She hadn't gone over the edge of the falls; when the water pulled her over, she had managed to grab onto a rock jutting out of the top of the falls and propel herself towards the edge of the river.
Her head now above the water, she scrabbled at the sides of the river, knowing that it would be impossible for her to climb up on her own.
I suppose it's a good thing I'm Able.
Vines and roots shot out of the bank and tangled themselves together to provide a sort of rope that fell into the river. Finchstar grabbed the tangle between her jaws and hauled herself out of the river, pulling on the rope with her Ability and climbing rapidly with her back legs. When she reached stable ground, she stood shakily for a moment, looking small and weak with her slicked-wet fur. She knew that she had expended all of her physical strength as well as her power. Closing her eyes, she slumped to the ground, breathing heavily.
