"I don't know." Sandshadow replied. "Was there a deputy? My poor old mind can't remember a thing."

"I don't think so..." Secretleaf mewed.

"This is terrible" Dawnlily murmured. "How could she have forgotten to choose a deputy, and we all didn't notice?"

"I don't know." Secretleaf sighed.

Dawnlily turned to Secretleaf "Perhaps you can visit her in StarClan and ask who she thinks should be our new leader, if you can do that"

"I believe Mysticstar would visit me in my dreams at a time like this." Secretleaf mewed.
"But what if she decides not to answer?" Gatorjaw asked.

"We'll just have to hope she does"

Stormsand nodded. "She has to answer. There's no better time than now."

"We desperately need her." Secretleaf agreed.

Sandshadow nodded. "Then it is decided."

"Do you want a warrior to go with you? It can be dangerous out there..." Runningmoon said to Secretleaf.

"Yeah." Secretleaf mewed.

Stormsand padded up. "Who will you choose?"

"I'll go with Gatorjaw." Secretleaf mewed. "He's a strong cat."

"Good, go swiftly then. You'll need to speak with her right away," Thornshadow meowed to Secretleaf and Gatorjaw. "And may StarClan light your path," He added.

Secretleaf nodded and she and Gatorjaw padded off.

Sandshadow and Stormsand watched as they padded away. "I suppose I'm going to have to wait a little longer to become a warrior." Stormsand mewed. "But in the meantime, who wants to practice some battle training with me? I've got to be able to prove it if I'm going to become a warrior."

Secretleaf and Gatorjaw swam across the river, until they made it to a special island. "It sure looks beautiful today." Secretleaf mewed.
Gatorjaw rolled his eyes.
They made it to some trees. The roots formed a hollow. "The Moonstar." Secretleaf mewed. The two cats sat in the hollow and looked up in the moonlight. Then they curled up and fell asleep.

Since nobody had padded up for some battle training, Stormsand rolled her eyes and glanced at the cats gathered around. "Lynxtail." she mewed. "Will you train with me?"

"Okay." Lynxtail purred.

Sandshadow watched as Stormsand and Lynxtail padded up to each other. He wanted to see his daughter fight. "Claws sheathed." Stormsand reminded Lynxtail. "Begin!"

Lynxtail nodded and, with his claws seathed, started striking blows at Stormsand.

Thornshadow sat down not far off, and watched them train, curious about how Stormsand would do.

Lynxtail smiled. The new leader will be so proud of me.

Stormsand had been watching the apprentices battle train, later practicing those moves for herself, so she was prepared. Stormsand struck her paw out at Lynxtail's head.
